UK Border staff can now deny student visa entry E-mail

UK airport immigration officials are now being given more influence over denying student visa holders entry into the UK. The border officials will now have the power to deny entry to any suspect UK student visa owners upon arrival at customs.

The decision comes in the wake of UK immigration workers reporting it difficult to prevent immigration frauds from entering the country once they have already obtained a student visa using falsified documents. Sometimes the visas are even for false institutions some have reported.

Prior to the change in policy, border staff were incapable of denying entry to any foreigner arriving in possession of a valid UK student visa solely based on suspicion. As a result, a huge backup of UK student visa applications were being received by immigration, but many of them where not legal to start.

In a move to lower the number of false visas being used, Phil Woolas, UK immigration minister, decided to grant border workers a little more leeway to analyze entering students bank accounts at on-site interviews right at the airport. As part of the requirement for a student visa, applicants must show the appropriate financial means to be able to afford study.

The new policy will allow border officials more power to make on-the-spot decisions, meanwhile the entire UK student visa system will be reviewed and possibly changed in the wake of the Christmas Day attempted bombing by the 23-year old Nigerian student studying in the UK.
