Dr Rajinder Dudrah, Head of Drama at Manchester University, has been recognised as one of the UK's top 50 South Asian 'Global Achievers' for his contribution to the understanding of the Bollywood film industry through his academic and media work. He will join some of the Asian community's most successful names at an awards ceremony hosted by The Triangle Media Group on 7 February. Receiving honorary awards will be Indian Film Actress Nandita Das for her film Firaaq and Indian film Director Onir for his forthcoming film I am. In the Global Ambassadors category, Oscar winner AR Rahman is recognised for bringing Indian music to mainstream attention in Couples Retreat and Slumdog Millionaire. Other top 50 global achievers include nuclear physicist Dr Shan Nair, actress Lisa Ray, playwright Emteaz Hussain and artist Roma Patel. The TMG Awards selection committee is made up of professionals working in Britain, Australia, India, China, Spain, Holland, USA, and the UAE spanning the fields of business, media, law, education and political life. Awards are given to professionals who have excelled in their respective fields and are noted for their contribution in promoting South Asian work globally. Dr Dudrah said: "The TMG Awards have been in existence since 2004 and aim to recognise the growing importance of professional South Asian talent and its influence around the world. "I'm delighted and surprised to be honoured by this group and to be awarded a Top 50 Global Achiever Award. "Not least because two of my Indian cinema stalwarts and personal icons have also been honoured - Aishwariya Rai previously, and this year AR Rahman, who produced the international smashit music score for Danny Boyle's film Slumdog Millionaire. "It's humbling and equally thrilling to witness my work on Bollywood cinema and South Asian popular culture being recognised for its knowledge transfer and impact outside the University." - Staff Related Articles:
