25 percent British babies born to Indians, Pakistanis E-mail

Almost a quarter of babies in Britain are born to immigrant mothers, mostly from India and Pakistan, according to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

In London, around half of babies have foreign-born mothers, and in some London outskirts, around three quarters of children have mothers who were born abroad.

Burnley murder victim's father upset over re-opening of case in India E-mail

Reports that police in northern India have reopened their investigation into the murder of a British charity worker are "distressing", his father has said.

Michael Blakey, 23, from Burnley, was found dead in a gully near a church in Dharamsala in November 2006. No one has been convicted over his death but reports in India suggest police are re-interviewing people.

Horse tranquiliser found in Indian health drink; two taken ill in Leicester E-mail

Shopkeeper Anil Patel said a package containing the health drink had been delivered to him by mistake, but he had not sold any of the product. Gayatri, the Indian company that produces the aloe vera drink, said it had not exported to UK.

Virus phone scam in UK traced to call centres in India E-mail

The scam always starts the same way: the phone rings at someone's home, and the caller - usually with an Indian accent - asks for the householder, quoting their name and address before saying "I'm calling for Microsoft. We've had a report from your internet service provider of serious virus problems from your computer."

Though people on dozens of web forums have recorded their experiences with the scammers, police and trading standards officers in the UK are powerless to stop them.
