Sunil Chopra, the new General Secretary of the organisation is a leading NRI entrepreneur. He was former President of National Students Union of India and former Vice President of Youth Congress, Delhi.

The election of the office bearers was preceded by a condolence meeting last evening at the Indian Gymkhana at Osterley where rich tributes were paid to Kapoor for his "patriotism, sincerity and commitment to the Congress organisation."

Veerendra Sharma, Labour MP, described Kapoor as a "fatherly figure" who worked for the unity of India even in adverse conditions.
