Asian Music Awards: Jay Sean gets four nominations
R&B singer Jay Sean has been nominated in four categories at the British Asian Music Awards.

The 26-year-old was the first male British urban artist to have a number one single in the US with 2009 release Down, which featured rapper Lil' Wayne.

Hounslow-born Sean is up for best male act, best urban act, best video for Down and best album for All or Nothing.

The awards are the British Asian equivalent of the Brits and will take place on Thursday, 11 March.

Asian singers Sukhshinder Shinda and Imran Khan have also had plenty of success and are also up for four awards.
Khan is up for three in the same category as Sean, the exception being best urban act.

Instead, Khan is listed for the best desi (south Asian) act, following the success of his single Amplifier on his album Unforgettable.

Sukshinder Shinda is up for best album for Collaborations 2, best producer, best video and best desi act.

BBC Asian Network are the official radio partner of this year's AMA's and the station's DJ Bobby Friction said: "I think the nominations are a fair reflection of what has been happening over the last 12 months."

Jaz Dhami has been a big hit with his album JD and is up for best male act, best album and best desi act.

"I'm really surprised," Dhami told BBC Asian Network. "I won best newcomer last year and to be nominated for three awards this time around is amazing."
