Tesco to donate £1 from Slumdog DVD sales to Indian street kids |
|
Supermarket giant Tesco will donate £1 from the sale of every DVD of Slumdog Millionaire and donate the money - expected to reach up to £200,000 - to Railway Children, a charity working directly with children on the streets of India.
Dave Ellis, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Railway Children, said: "Slumdog Millionaire has really helped to boost awareness of our work because the characters are exactly the type of children we help.
"Unlike the film, there is no happy ending for the majority of the 12 million street children in India. We work every day to change this shocking statistic."
The Oscar and BAFTA award-winning film will be available on DVD from 1 June.
